CICAR, THE RENT-A-CAR COMPANY, RELAUNCHES THE SEAT IBIZA CÉSAR MANRIQUE LIMITED EDITION.
The leading car rental company in the Canary Islands shows its intention to preserve Manrique’s legacy by purchasing 96 Seat Ibiza vehicles furnished as the original version of the model designed by César Manrique back in 1987.
The initiative was started up by Seat Spain, when they requested the artist from Lanzarote to come up with a design for the Seat Ibiza model. It ended up being a design by the artist that had a very characteristic colour, and it was highly acclaimed. No wonder Manrique was also requested to design the 730i in 1990 by BMW.
MANRIQUE’S ART
César Manrique, an abstract art pioneer in Spain during the 1950’s, brought his own style to both vehicles. Influenced by the nature on his island, using the black shades of the volcanic ash and the red ones from Timanfaya, and mixing them with other elements he found around him.
